Treatment of Gum Disease
For years we have known that the mouth was not isolated from the rest of the body. Recent studies have shown just how severely disease in the mouth can affect the rest of the body.
Untreated gum disease makes you 4 times more likely to have a heart attack and 2 times more likely to have a stroke. Certain oral bacteria can increase the risk of heart attack by as much as 14 times. Since cardiovascular disease kills approximately 65% of men and 50% of women, these risks should not be taken lightly.
Bacteria from your gum tissue can enter the blood stream causing damage to tissues far beyond your mouth. These bacteria invade the gum tissue and cannot be removed by routine cleaning.
Drs. Miller and Kelly, along with our highly trained dental hygientists have learned to treat periodontal disease in an effective, yet conservative manner. Surgery is rarely necessary and they are able to treat the cause of the disease (a bacterial invasion into the gum tissue), rather than waiting to only treat the damage the disease causes. Since systemic antibiotics that work for gum disease also kill the good bacteria found in the body, they should be used very sparingly. Instead, using a CO2 laser, our team can comfortably and affordably reduce the bacteria in your gum tissue in a fraction of the time and cost required for the “old school” gum treatment and surgery.
Come experience the difference that our experience and training can make today. Our team is eager to help you regain your health.
