Sleep Apnea
Drs. Miller and Kelly have added the management of sleep apnea to our practice. After attending the Las Vegas Institute for state of the art training, they understand the critical role that dentists can have in saving the lives of their patients. Working closely with sleep physicians and other medical specialists, we are able to provide an alternative to the dreaded CPAP therapy. For mild to moderate sleep apnea, a properly fitted and adjusted oral appliance has been shown to be an effective form of treatment. In patients with severe disease, an oral appliance should be used in combination with CPAP (making it more comfortable and effective).
Untreated sleep apnea carries an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, thyroid problems, diabetes and blood sugar regulation, motor vehicle accidents, divorce, impotence, and many more serious illnesses. This silent epidemic increases the medical costs of sufferers to more than ten times that of a healthy patient. In addition, children are often affected causing increased risk of the above mentioned conditions as well as bed wetting, ADHD, crooked teeth and tooth grinding.
Three basic questions can screen for many sleep disorders:
1) Do you have trouble going to sleep?
2) Do you have trouble staying asleep?
3) Do you feel rested when you wake up in the morning?
If you, or someone you know, suffer from poor sleep, schedule an appointment today to discuss how modern treatment alternatives can transform and save lives.
