Tooth colored fillings were first used in the early 1980’s and have now become the state-of-art material for tooth fillings. There has been a debate the last few years over the traditional amalgam or mercury fillings that have been used for over a hundred years. Dr. Michael Kelly of Aesthetic Dentistry of Scottsdale has made the decision to offer only the tooth colored fillings to their patients. Amalgam fillings may have been the choice at one time, but they have been used since the Model T was being driven.

Amalgam (mercury) fillings do not provide strength to the teeth and can actually cause the teeth to crack and fracture in time. Tooth Colored fillings bond the tooth together thus providing a stronger tooth. The placement of these tooth colored fillings are technique sensitively and must be placed with care. Experience in placing these materials is important.

Patients in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Carefree, or Glendale, Arizona areas can contact Dr. Michael Kelly at Aesthetic Dentistry of Scottsdale if they need further information.
