Dr. Miller attended his first continuing education course on Dental Implants at Northwestern University of School of Dentistry in the early 80's when Dr. Branemark, the father of modern implant technology, came from Denmark to present his research. Since that time, Dr. Miller has taken many courses on the restoration of missing teeth with dental implants. Dr. Miller completed a year long implant program at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Miller works closely with a team of highly trained surgeons who have years of experience placing dental implants. The team approach to this treatment is the only way to make sure our patients receive the desired outcome they want.
If you have missing teeth due to aging, injury, decay, or gum disease, implants may be the treatment of choice for you. With the advancement of dental implant treatment today, virtually anyone is a candidate for this method of tooth replacement.
An implant is an artificial root that replaces the root of the missing tooth. The implant fuses to the existing bone and acts as an anchor for the restoration to look, feel, and function as a real tooth. Implants can replace one tooth or replace all the teeth with an implant supported denture.
Implants placed and restored by a skilled professional have a success rate of 95%. The procedure takes about 4-6 months to complete. Most implant patients report that the implant surgery is less bothersome that having a tooth extracted.
We are often asked will my implant-supported teeth be as strong as my natural teeth. The answer is yes. Research shows that in many cases implant are actually stronger that the natural teeth. Compared to the conventional removable teeth (dentures and partials), studies show implant supported teeth have 100% or even better chewing efficiency. In these cases no longer are individuals slaves to what they can eat. They now can choose what foods they want to eat-and life becomes better.
It may be time for you to consider this 21st century treatment to replace those missing teeth. It may be time for you to be able to eat well and smile with confidence. If so, call Dr. Edward Miller for your consultation.
